AN elderly woman is in a critical condition after being knocked down in Marylebone by a heavy goods lorry this morning.

The 83-year-old woman was crossing the road at the junction of George Street and Baker Street when the lorry hit her.

She sustained serious leg injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Charing Cross Hospital.

The streets around the accident were cordoned off until 1.30pm, but have now re-opened.

Police say the incident is being investigated but they have currently made no arrests.

They said that the driver stopped at the scene.
